Sibsagar College of Teachers Education : B.Ed. Programme

The Sibsagar College, Joysagar has created a new era in the domain of Teachers’ Education in Sivasagar District as it has got formal recognition from National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) to start B. Ed. Programme from this session (2015 – 2016) as “Sibsagar College of Teachers Education” which is under the authority and jurisdiction of Sibsagar College, Joysagar. The Sibsagar College of Teachers Education is affiliated to D.U. and is going to be the only teacher training institution in the entire district of Sivasagar, the erstwhile capital of the Ahom Kingdom who ruled Assam for nearly six hundred years. Also, it is going to be the first institution of its kind in the district bordering the states of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh since independence. This is the result of the tireless efforts of the administration of Sibsagar College, Joysagar and a handful of faculty members of the college and the unstinted support of the people of the area as a whole since 2007. This will cater to 1150253 people of the district with the literacy rate of 81.22 as per 2011 census report. The institution is the result of the Resolution No. 4(c) of the Governing Body of Sibsagar College held on 12.04.2007 and the inspection of the members deputed by the NCTE, ERC was completed on 04.09.2013.

                       The NCTE granted formal recognition to Sibsagar College of Teachers Education for conducting B.Ed. programme of two years duration with an annual intake of 50 students (one unit) from the academic session 2015-2016 under clause 7(16)of NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2014 vide letter No. ER-182.6.20/ERCAPP1210/ B.Ed/2015/30728 dated 03/03/2015. Dibrugarh University has accorded affiliation to Sibsagar College of Teqchers Education to start B.Ed Programme w.e.f. the academic session 2015-16 vide letter no. DU/RG/DCDC/SCTE/Perm.Major/2015-2016/8748 dated 30.04.2015 in pursuance of the Resolution No. (36) of the 325th Meeting of the Executive Council.
