Following the permission accorded by Dibrurgarh University vide letter No.DU/DCDC/16/SC/P.G/9329, dated 26.04.2016 which was conveyed by the Director, College Development Council, Dibrugarh University to the Principal, Sibsagar College, Joysagar, to open Post Graduation in English in the regular mode under the aegis of the Department of English of the College with effect from the forthcoming academic session commencing from August 1, 2016, the College is gearing itself up and working on a war footing to ensure that all works come full circle pertaining to opening PG in English. The opening of the PG course is indubitably the outcome of the faculty of the English Department of the College who having realised its urgency forwarded a proposal to its affiliating University in 2014 for its permission and recognition. The unflinching support and encouragement extended by the college authority deserve to be mentioned in this context. It is a matter of privilege that this college is arguably one among the three or four Colleges across Assam which is slated to offer PG in English in the regular mode from the forthcoming academic session.

The course being in the regular mode will be a full time course in consonance with the guidelines and prescriptions of Dibrugarh University. As the Department of English of the University is the parent Department, the course will be conducted strictly in accordance with the instructions and guidelines issued by the University Department vis-a-vis the academic calendar in terms of holding sessionals, seminars, attendance, tests, end-semester examinations et al.

As of now, the University has accorded permission to the College to admit 20(twenty students). All things remaining the same, a Department Management Committee was recently formed with the Principal of the College as the Chairperson. The formation of this committee was synchronous with the honourable members adopting a unanimous resolution to structure the provision for twenty seats by breaking it up into a pattern where 16 students will be admitted strictly on the basis of merit and other relevant rules and regulations as are applicable, 2(two) students will be admitted under Endowment Head. The College authority will reserve the right to exercise its discretion and have its say under the circumstances as would arise regarding admission to the remaining two seats. No claim, whatsoever, regarding the discretion to be exercised/executed pertaining to admission to these two seats will be entertained.

Admissions to PG in English will be notified through advertisements in one or two leading Assamese/ English dailies. Forms and prospectus will be available immediately upon the declaration of BA Sixth Semester Results of Dibrugarh University.
